We are one of the 100% EOU Project of Agricultural Gherkins processing unit located at Sy.No.150/6 Nallapitchanpatti Village, Sendurai under the head of Mr. Ay.Veeranan who is the promoter and he is a B.Sc., Horticultural Graduate, also having well versed knowledge in Processing of Gherkins and other Vegetables. The process of Gherkins in Salt Brine, Acetic Acid (Food Grade) and Vinegar (Food Grade) and export to USA, Canada and European market. In our project, there are 50 Nos. of Female and 20 Nos. of Male workers are engaged at our factory as well as directly and indirectly there are 500 Nos. of Female and 300 Nos. of Male workers are engaged in the agricultural field and benefited through employment opportunities.
We have given below the details of our procurement of Gherkins and Process for your kind reference:
Raw Materials
Gherkin cultivation is on a contract-farming basis with large numbers of small farmers (0.1 – 0.5 hectares each) spread over an area within a 100 km radius of the factory. Seed material, fertilisers and agrochemicals are supplied to the farmers on credit. Technical assistance is provided to each farmer through a system of qualified and trained field staff. There are normally 3 field officers for every 50 farmers who advise the farmers on cultivation practices and pest management. Only approved agrochemicals are issued to the farmer and records are maintained on pesticides usage. On delivery the crop is inspected and segregated according to grade and growing area to maintain traceability. The cultivation system is audited on a regular basis to ensure farmer compliance with our guidelines
Manufacturing Process
Grading: Fresh Gherkins received from farm should be graded as per the requirements to the required sizes by manually or with grading sieves. eg.: 100+, 100-160; 100-120; 80-120; 60-80; 60-100 etc.. The grades are denoted by No. of pieces per Kg.
Washing: Graded Fresh Gherkins are cleaned with water in Fruit Washer and fed in to Inspection Belt.
Inspection: Washed Gherkins are inspected to remove unused Gherkins like Nubs, Crooks, Borer and Bleached fruits etc. Accepted fruits are sent for packing in to HDPE Barrels.
Packing: Initially 135 Kgs. of accepted fruits are packed in Barrels with preservative of food grade Salt, Acetic Acid and Vinegar.
Final Packing: After fermentation completed, the packed fruits are taken out from the Barrels and then re-packing with 150 Kgs. or 160 Kgs. with preservative in Barrels as per customer’s specifications.
